Beauty is in the Details

Here are some details of our new house.
This is a pic of the dining room just because it's the most
unique room in the house but there are many unique
details all over, in every corner and wall that is
worth taking a look at. Here are some of
those details.

This hand lamp had me checking it out more closely.
There are a pair of them in one of the bedrooms and it's
so unique I'm not sure if I've ever seen it before.
It is very antique and beautiful for sure
and I'm so happy to have them.

This iron duck is not only charming but also useful
as she is used as a door stopper for the large doors
of each bedroom.

There are many original windows still standing in this house.
They are rounded at the top which makes this house so
unique and these window latches which don't work
and are mostly broken still add to the character.

Each door has a botanical decoration on it.
This one leads to the apartment which was an
addition done in the eighties I believe. There are
many twists and turns in this house.

The Blair House brochures. It is time to order
new ones with updated information because the Inn
will be starting up again soon.

There are a number of the claw foot tubs.
They may be old fashioned but they are
beautiful and good for a deep hot soak.

All the doors are large and need a good iron
doorstopper like this one. These doors are heavy
made of good wood not like the ones
we usually have nowadays.

It is strange to see the door chain above a blank plate.
The doorknob is down further but this looks like
the doorknob is completely missing.

There are two very antique chairs in the front hall.
They have a very tall and narrow back that is
filled with intricate and beautiful
carvings.

Though we'll have to keep pets to the other side of the house
Sabrina is checking out her new surroundings.
They were quite unsure of what was happening
or why they were suddenly in a new place
but I'm sure soon they will be used to it.

Our first supper in our new house.
It was a long day and we were tired and hungry.
But we were also excited to start the next chapter of our lives.
Sometimes you just don't know where the road is
leading you until you get there.

Blair House

At last we've signed the final papers and we're on our way to our new home. It got very bright and sunny after lunch, we could barely see. As we got back to the house we were so excited to get the key from the real estate lady and unlock our home for the first time. We took pictures in the front of the house and by the front door to keep this memory forever. You can see by the smile on my face that the accomplishment is real and I'm feeling it. The rest of our family will arrive the day after but for now we enter Blair House and roam through it like kids in a candy store. There are so many rooms and corners to discover, with details on every wall and floor. Here are some pictures of these first moments. Here's to hoping many more memories will be made here from here on.

The River

While we waited for our paperwork to be completed so we can sign the final piece we had lunch by the very frozen St Croix River. There was still beauty there from the colorful lighthouse at the end of the pier to the blocks of ice swept at the edge of the shoreline to the town of Calais in the USA just a stone throw away from St. Stephen. The skies were covered with clouds but sun was trying hard to peek through and eventually it did later on in the day. We picked up some sandwiches and ate in the car, watching the view that was so different from what we knew. Living by the river will be a new experience. Rivers are always beautiful and sometimes unpredictable There have been floods here but as far as we were told never reaching as far as our house to be.  We would be on a hill and hopefully safe from any natural disasters. Still we're looking forward to the future and life in this tiny town on the East Coast.

Here to Live

This was our first glimpse of our home on the day we arrived in town to close on the house. It was unbelievable that we were actually here to live and have made such a huge change in our lives. We hope for the best but are prepared for whatever might come next. I mean the house is older than Canada as our daughter Maya keeps reminding us. Anything could happen; a leak in the basement or attic, radiators could die, plumbing could back up, any number of things but we're ready to deal with it. At this time the rest of the family had not arrived yet so we did the final inspection while the current owners were still in the process of moving out. I wondered how they were feeling, leaving the house they loved, but I didn't wonder for long because this was now going to be our house and I was excited for everything to come.

Reached Our Destination

Here we are in the early morning of Friday January the 18th as we head onto the last stretch of our trip before we reach St Stephen. We were so excited to get going because today we would get the keys to our new home. It was still very chilly in the morning and so we bundled up good for the time ahead. As we headed more toward St Stephen the views seem to change. The trees were more in a row, lots and lots of fir evergreen trees. They looked so pretty with snow settled on all the edges. Untouched beauty. I couldn't stop staring out the window. Trucks hauling wood logs went by. Some small towns started to creep up. And then we came to a round-about and were were there, in our new hometown. St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

This is heading toward the downtown part of St Stephen but we turn off before that. As you come in you can see the lighthouse and the St Croix River in the distance. At last we have reached our destination.
