The Market and Changes

Not much going on today at first anyway. We wanted to relax a little but did get out to do some souvenir shopping at the nearby market where you can haggle for a better price. We were told once we get a price to offer them ten percent. It seems strange when they say something is 180 Y to only offer 18, mostly we got really blank stares. Some merchants were willing to negotiate some did not so we bought from those that were willing. but mostly settled for somewhere in between. I mean they need to make some money too.

After the market we were on our way back to the hotel. All seemed fine until we stopped at a news stand to pick up a magazine and hubby gave money to vendor to pay for it with a round bill to get change back but Maya did not understand. She kept trying to tell us we gave too much but in her mind did not listen to her although we tried telling her we will get money back so she got very upset with this. She would not walk back to the hotel but hung back. At first we walked on but she remained long enough for me to go back and get her. We did not have a good time walking back at all. It was very strenuous. Once back in the room we had a major pow wow as to who is in charge here and how we need to walk together and go when asked to go and what is safe or not safe such as leaning back on us on the escalator or otherwise. She made it clear by changing into some clothes she brought with her, taking her original backpack and trying to get out of the room that she didn't like our rules and was going back to Nanchang. There was crying, screaming, all the things we hear about. It was very emotional and stressful but without going into much detail later in the day we went our for supper at a restaurant in the hotel so as not to risk another episode and things were good, smiles were back, it was Mommy and Daddy again and all was well.  When transition is not hitting her she is such a sweet little girl, all bubbles.  We now translate to Maya where we are going and what we expect and although we could see the moments of possibility of getting out of hand she had held back and so far so good, knock on wood. Though yes, nerves are up about the thirteen hour flight home and how it will go. It is tomorrow and as is the case with everyone in adoption we cannot wait to get home and start our normal lives, our new normal with our fourth child Maya, oh how we love her already. She is  sweet child with huge changes in front of her.

Maya picked this fish for supper, it was practically all bone, she sucked out of it what she could but first thing she picked out the eye and gave it to Daddy. He promptly said no thank you. She then had no problem eating it, spitting out the retina or something. I again managed to eat my full meal with chop sticks.

Stopped at a news stand again buying some bread she wanted for snack later. Daddy gave a round bill again and she was just about to argue again but thought better of it. She saw Daddy get his change back and all was well with the world again.
